Seniors, today was our very last pep assembly ever. Out of all 12 assemblies that we have attended, we only won the spirit stick twice. I'm not mad that we didn't win it this term, I'm just glad that we got out heads out of our asses and finally became not too cool to cheer. It's about time! You can't be mad at the sophomores, they just did what we didn't try to do when we were sophomores. If you're going to be mad at someone, be mad at Mr. Grady. He's the butthead who threw them the spirit stick.
Not winning the spirit stick didn't appal me, but the person who won the biggest bruise did. An African American from the sophomore class went down to the soap boxes and said that he was bruised all over. The sophomores got the point. Imagine this being published in a national newpaper. It would stun people. There would be an uprising. It's racism in a twisted form. I don't think that was fair at all.
Comming out of the pep assembly, it was discovered that cap and gowns were being handed out. Seniors, do you realize that we graduate from this school in 50 days? 50. That's it. We have spent 12+ years of our lives in school. Waking up early, spending 6+ hours a day in the same building, then going home to do homework. It's almost over. Everything we have known since we can remember (about the age of three) is going to change. Mr. Grady says, "All the rules change," and i am really beginging to understand what he means. I recently accepted to the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. I will be 4 hours from home, live in an appartment with three other people, and have to take care of myself. My parents wont be there to hold my hair when i throw up, to do my laundry, to make my food, to take me shopping. I have to do all of this myself. Think about it. When is the last time you did all of that yourself?
I have also recently been recieving 5738475394857q934875 facebook notifications. Trust me. I'm not popular. It's everyone inviting me to their grad party via facebook. It's making me mad. It's like a fake out! I'm expecting activity on my wall or comments on my pictures and it just ends up being a party invite. It's like awaiting a text from someone you like and having twitter text you instead. IT SUCKS.
And that's how you know it's that time of year.
Sarah
